Topside Simulation

Dynamic simulation provides a method of reducing risk, reducing downtime and also of optimising equipment and operations.  Many operators believe topsides simulation is a crucial technology to identify and implement significant improvements in facility design and operation.

The technology can be used to size equipment such as:

  • Relief valves
  • Size vessels
  • Specify valves
  • Optimise piping
  • Quantify set points and controllers
  • Accumulators
  • Air vents

Simulation can be used on most of the topside processes from liquid, gas to multi-phase and is well established in design environments and operations.

Simulation can now extend from the wellheads, through subsea to the topsides and then onwards into the export system.

Temperature

Dynamic models can encompasses engineering design, operator procedures/training, and on operations/ start-up diagnostics. Such a flexible tool can be extremely useful for operators, team leaders, and engineering support to monitor facility performance for ongoing field surveillance.

Yet despite the impressive scope of some models, the cost is low in relation to the total engineering effort.
